Rajshahi kidnappers’ torture den busted

Detectives of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) busted a torture cell in the city’s Hetomkhan area used by a gang of kidnappers for torturing people abducted for ransom.

In a press conference held at RMP’s Detective Branch office today, Bijoy Basak, additional commissioner of RMP, said police found the torture cell while investigating a kidnapping case, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent.

Police arrested four members of the gang during a special operation, and recovered locally-made weapons.

The arrestees are — Arefin Ahad Khan alias Sunny, 42, Mostaq Ahmed alias Fahim, 22, Md Parvez, 27, and Sabbir Sarkar, 25.

They were arrested during raids in different areas of the city yesterday.

The arrestees were sent to jail after they were placed before a court. Two separate cases have been filed with Boalia Police Station under kidnapping charges and Arms Act.

According to police, the arrestees kidnapped a ferryman, Delwar Hossain Mondol, from Rajarhata area on the evening of February 12.
