Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) has fixed the fare for the upcoming metro rail at Tk5 per kilometre, with a minimum fare of Tk20.

A passenger will have to pay Tk100 to travel the full length of the route from Uttara to Kamalapur.

Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader announced the fare rate while inaugurating the Metro Rail Information and Exhibition Centre at the Uttara depot on Tuesday.

The metro rail fare is around double the fare for buses in Dhaka, which is Tk2.45 per km. Students also receive a 50% discount on bus fares on showing their identity cards.

The minimum fare for a minibus is Tk8 and for a bus Tk10.

Obaidul Quader said metro rail passengers will get special benefits for using weekly, monthly and family cards. Furthermore, injured freedom fighters can travel on the metro rail free of charge, and people with special needs will receive special concessions on every journey.
